I first began to play the guitar as a young child in Delaware. After several years of playing rock and roll on the electric guitar, I met a teacher who turned me on to bluegrass music. Before long I bought my first banjo and was completely obsessed with learning to play. Eventually, my teacher sent off to take some banjo lessons from the great Tony Trischka.
After high school I moved to Waterville, Maine to attend Colby College, a small liberal arts school where I attained my bachelor's degree in music. In addition to academic classes in music theory and history, I performed with the African drumming ensemble, had guest performances with the symphony and jazz band, and played in a bluegrass duet. During my junior year, I spent a semester living in Cork, Ireland, where I studied Irish fiddle and guitar music.
Once I graduated from college I moved to Bozeman, Montana. I have been teaching music at a private studio for almost four years, offering private lessons on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, dobro and piano. In 2006, I helped to start the Bozeman Bluegrass Camp, which taught children how to play bluegrass songs and the nuances of performing with other musicians.
I am also a member of the Bridger Creek Boys, a bluegrass quartet that has performed in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Colorado, including the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival and the band contest at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
